Obvious Mysteries
by John Collings

To my dearest daughter and sister,

Our meal together last night was more special than I knew then. I was awakened early this morning praying about of many of the things that we had talked about. The Father often wakes me in the morning to consider what I don’t seem to be able to take time for during a busy day. I know this is His way of my being open to other people (intercession). For me it is the reality of the Kierkeggard piece that means listening rather than speaking or hearing with the ears of the Father.

There are many things that I would want to pass on to you as your inheritance from me, things that I have also given to others as well, but as these things are all spiritual, they are not limited and reserved for only one person, in fact they were designed to be given away. If you will take them as the treasures they are from me, I know they will transform your life in ways that you have begun to imagine. The gifts are “obvious mysteries.” Obvious because the truths of them are everywhere, written in the Bible and known from the earliest of times; Mysteries because they are secrets that most people don’t see or know.

The first gift is the Mystery of the Gospel. Col 1:26-27 “that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles,”
Lam 3:23 “They are new every morning, Great is Try faithfulness”

The second gift is the Mystery of Newness. 2 Cor 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away: behold, all things are become new,” How can it be that old things can be new things. It is a “Mystery.”

I am temped to just tell you these things, but they are most precious when you discover them yourself, not when they are plainly laid out. They are gifts that expand and explode with new meaning when you take them as yours and not a teaching that someone else has given to you. Notice that both of the verses I gave you have a beginning that comes from more thought and both end with a comma (there is more to follow). I often take these things and read backward to try to discover for myself where they come from, and read forward to see where they really go. Not to find someone else’s meaning, but to discover what they mean for me. Really, this is only a beginning to whet your thirst. Let me know when you are ready for more. Possibly these obvious mysteries are the keys to some of the other dreams and hopes you have hidden within you.

Your loving father and spritual brother,
